Weight Loss - when diet plans fail

There are many reasons why people fail at weightloss and the following are observations from many people I have encountered over the years - not just clients but friends and family.

Not having a clear picture of why you want to lose weight. If someone has their mind set on something specific - a wedding, getting a partner, not taking medication - you have a better chance.

Personality also has some influence. People who rebel against authority (white coats) are less likely to stick to a long term set plan. Disclipline is a must with weightloss, your subconscious mind is the same age as a 7 year-old, it is this part of your mind that demands foods that are unhealthy. If you can say NO to a child, you can say NO to your urges.

You must ask yourself - What will happen if I do not lose weight?

Diabetes is a very restrictive illness, if you can cut down before you become diabetic then it will make a big difference. http://www.diabetes.org.uk/

You increase your chances of heart disease. http://www.bhf.org.uk/

You increase your chances of having a hip replacement, knee replacement, or problems with the joints and bones (such as slipped femoral epiphysis and bow legs). Of course if you already have mobility problems due to arthritus or obesity, you will need to find a way to exercise without putting a strain on your joints, such as swimming or cycling.

A condition called benign intracranial hypertension that produces headaches and affects vision, hypoventilation (leading to drowsiness during the day, snoring and even heart failure), gall bladder disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, high blood pressure and high levels of blood fats.
